Mission Trips
"...Truly I tell you, in so far as you did it for one of the least of these My bretheren, you did it for Me." Matthew 25:40

SFUMC Youth traveled to Shreveport, La. during June. We spent a week with youth from Brock, LifePoint, Mooreville, Lorena, and Cogsdell UMCs. During the course of the week we built wheelchair ramps, painted houses, played with children at VOA recreation centers, fixed roofs, repaired siding on houses, and gave hope to a community.

Immerse 2009

This year our theme for the Central Texas Conference Youth in Mission (CTCYM) was Immerse. In retrospect I can see how fitting this theme was considering most of our youth and several of our adults were on mission trip for the first time. The word “immerse” means to be completely submerged and that’s what it felt like. We arrived in Shreveport and began our evening by helping another group unload and then get into our work teams. We talked about testing the waters which is really what the first day is about; we were put in groups with people we didn’t know and went into situations where we weren’t comfortable doing jobs that we had never done…yet we succeeded. We talked during one of our devotions about facing our fears. Each person wrote down our fears on boats and we discussed Peter walking on water. By the end of the week we witnessed youth overcome fears of heights, ladders, bugs, germs, and being in new situations. We were also “immersed” in worship. Our verse for the week was John 4:14 where Jesus tells the Samaritan woman about the living water and our theme song was “Come to the Water”. The first night the group was quiet and still in worship but as the week progressed and the group felt the Living Water flowing through our living center the youth and adults began worshiping with song and dance. The youth were able to find God in worship and learned that there is more than one way to praise God. We remembered our baptism on Friday night as we celebrated Holy Communion with our group and we all came away from the experience washed clean and ready to live life immersed in Jesus’ Living Water.

Blessings, Brandi
